Planting the Seeds of Flower Face. DAUR Receive R&D Funding
DAUR are thrilled to announce that Flower Face has received research and development funding from Arts Council England, supporting the early exploration of this new theatrical work.
Some projects arrive quietly, like a seed carried on the wind. Flower Face is one of them.
Supported by funding from Arts Council England, DAUR will begin an R&D process this Summer to explore the world, themes, visual language, and storytelling possibilities of Flower Face, a new work inspired in part by the Welsh tales of the Mabinogi.
Blending folklore, fantasy realism, contemporary storytelling, and dark humour, Flower Face explores identity, transformation, tenderness, beauty, wildness, and the fragile relationship between humanity and the natural world. Drawing inspiration from mythic storytelling traditions, the project asks what it means to exist beyond containment — when the form you inhabit cannot be and should not be named, bounded, controlled, or owned by others.
This early stage of development will allow DAUR to spend time researching, writing, experimenting, and uncovering the emotional heart of the piece. The company’s process is rooted in curiosity, courageous play, and interdisciplinary experimentation, allowing stories to evolve through image, conversation, instinct, collaboration, and discovery.
As with much of DAUR’s work, Flower Face sits in the space between the strange and the deeply human, where folklore and contemporary life overlap and where transformation can feel both unsettling and beautiful.
